Late Frosts

The oscillation of temperatures throughout the crop cycle can condition the final result of an agricultural campaign, reducing the quality and quantity of production. A late frost can create damage of different magnitude depending on different factors:
– Phenological phase in which the plant is (winter stop, sprouting, flowering, etc.)
– Crop species or variety.
– Nutritional status: a greater presence of Nitrogen in the raw sap leads to a greater sensitivity to thermal stress.
– The persistence of low temperatures for a long period of time exposes the crop to greater damage and greater difficulty of reparation. The damage, in practice, consists of the death of tissues caused by the collapse of cells after exposure to external temperatures for a fairly long period, which varies according to the affected organs (buds, shoots, flowers and inflorescences, and fruits).
